Local Involvement

The Olentangy Rotary Club has partnered with ODOT for at least the last six years, where we agree to clean a two-mile stretch of road at least twice per year.  We pick up litter along Powell Road (State Route 750) from the intersection of Sawmill Parkway to the intersection of Riverside Drive (State Route 257).  The road has been recently re-routed going around the south end of the Columbus Zoo.  We divide the road up into four sections and it usually takes about an hour to do the cleanup.  Thanks to the Rotarians that volunteer for this service project.Dan Weng, Chair

People In Need

Holiday Clearing House

Olentangy Rotary Club steps up to the challenge and helps to support 500 needy families in Delaware County through its annual participation with the People In Need Clearing House Distribution Day. Additionally the club collected dozens of new coats and over $1500 was raised from those who responded to Dave Anderson’s challenge to meet or beat the $250 grant he secured from Thrivent Financial.

People In Need, Inc. of Delaware County Ohio (PIN) is a private, not-for-profit social services agency dedicated to providing emergency assistance to Delaware County residents. Financial aid is provided by the United Way of Delaware County and community donations. PIN has served Delaware County residents for nearly 30 years. Thanks to the dedication of community volunteers, community donations and those too numerous to mention we will continue to serve those in need. Their mission is “Assisting families and individuals of Delaware County in a collaborative effort by providing personal emergency assistance with dignity and respect in their time of need.”

School Supplies

Kevin Crowley with People In Need of Delaware County has expressed his thanks for the school supplies. He states that this year (2011) was the first year that PIN had enough of the supplies to distribute that they did not have to use any of their shoe money to fill in. Because of that, PIN was able to give out 565 pairs of shoes for school children surpassing their goal of 450 pairs by a considerable amount. SPECIAL THANKS to Club Secretary and Past President Tom Kleven for providing the leadership to make this happen.
